CLASS 1A JANUARY HEIFERS
CHAMPION:
Kaydence Connolly, Cable OH |
Class List (in order of entry):
1a. Kaydence Connolly, Cable OH
1a. Kaydence Connolly, Cable OH
"In this class of January Heifers, we only have entry, but we have no doubt that this female would be very competitive with the other females that were entered in this show. She’s a smooth shouldered, neat made heifer who offers an attractive look from the side. This heifer opened up in her center cavity and then when you get a chance to look at her from behind there’s no doubt she has enough width and dimension. We really would have liked to see this heifer pulled to lead longer in her submission, but needless to say, we are excited to see what this heifer will offer down the line."
CLASS 1B JANUARY STEERS
CHAMPION:
Catie Stoll, Marshallville OH |
RESERVE CHAMPION:
Kevin Schumaker, Fort Jennings OH |
Class List (in order of entry)
1b.1 Kevin Schumaker - Fort Jennings, OH
1b.2 Catie Stoll - Marshallville, OH

"A nice competitive class of January steers who offer some tradeoffs in class 1B. When we get to studying the 1st entry, it's evident by the shape and dimension this steer carries in the center portion of his body that this is an easy feeding steer. When this steer is pulled to lead, he carries enough width at the ground, but we’d like to see him move with more flexibility and reach with his hind leg. When we start to study the 2nd entry, it’s evident this steer doesn’t carry as much dimension to his rib and we’d like to see him carry more depth to his flank to help him balance better from the side. But when we made the decision between the two steers, it came down to which one we thought had more genuine shape. In this case, we thought the 2nd entry had more shape and dimension out of his hip and down his lower quarter. A great class of January steers, congratulations to both exhibitors."
CLASS 2A FEBRUARY HEIFERS
CHAMPION:
Emma Yochum, Hillsboro OH |
RESERVE CHAMPION:
Amanda Annett, Utica OH |
Class List (in order of entry):
2a.1 Emma Yochum - Hillsboro, OH
2a.2 Amanda Annett - Utica, OH
2a.3 Barrett Evans - Dover, Ohio
2a.1 Emma Yochum - Hillsboro, OH
2a.2 Amanda Annett - Utica, OH
2a.3 Barrett Evans - Dover, Ohio
"A really good class of February females in class 2. There's a pair that surface to the top quickly which is 1 and 2. The 1 heifer is a high quality female that the committee was really excited about. She's truly correct in her angles and sound when pulled to lead. She also is attractive on the profile with a true functional and feminine look. She's got all the bells and whistles and is sure one that gets you excited. Not to take anything away from our second place heifer. We followed with the powerful, big bodied Shorthorn heifer. Her depth of body and unique overall look is one we love from the side. She may not be as comfortable in the set to her hind leg, but that's being critical on an attractive female."

"A really competitive class of steers and one of the larger classes to sort through. With that being said, without a doubt we used 1 to win this class. The young lady did a tremendous job handing her steer. Her showmanship skills highlighted even further the quality of this steer. We thought he checked the boxes of fundamentals, while still offering an over the top attractive look. He is the picture of power and balance. He balances from hooks to pins and packs power over his back and into his hip. Not only did he offer genuine shape, but when pulled to lead, he was sound with a tremendous amount of flex to his hind leg. In the second place, we were faced with some discussion."
"We followed with the 4th entry in the class. This is a big outlined steer that we all found attractive from the side. He has the pounds and look from the side profile, but relative to the class winner, it just is hard to compete with a powerful, athletic beast like the 1st entry." |

"A really good class of Heifers here in class 3. There’s a pair that surface pretty quickly, which is 3 and 5. In no particular order, the Hereford is so attractive on the profile, big bodied, proportionate, and so fluid in her movements when pulled to lead. Sure, we’d like to square her up, up front, and that’s where 5 has the advantage. 5’s definitely an eye catcher. She’s as big footed as any. With that she's as good as any on the profile , and super fresh and attractive when studied as a whole. In situations like these, I have to sit back and say to myself, which one would I be more proud of to have raised as a breeding piece, and the answer is the Hereford."

"A highly competitive class of steers and certainly one of the largest number of entries to sort. There was definitely some give and take on the variety of steers within the class but we find the 22 steer to win. When you get in behind this one and see how impressive he is in terms of genuine shape, dimension, and power it is without a doubt he rises to the top. He reads power while still remaining balanced and offering an attractive look. There was some discussion when sorting the reserve, but we found the 3 steer to compliment the class winner. He is bold and expressive while still offering a neat look. If there’s one thing I’d like to change about this steer, I’d like to make him more sound off his rear two and remain balanced when on the move. Ultimately two very nice steers in a highly competitive class, and congratulations to those two individuals."
CLASS 4A APRIL HEIFERS
CHAMPION:
Ian Gehret, Yorkshire OH |
RESERVE CHAMPION:
Taylor Barton, Sabina OH |
Class List (in order of entry):
4a.1 Kaydence Connolly - Cable OH 4a.2 Taylor Barton - Sabina OH 4a.3 Ian Gehret - Yorkshire OH 4a.4 D’lelah Laber - Hillsboro OH 4a.5 Emma Arnett - Brookville OH 4a.6 Delaney Moore - Lancaster OH 4a.7 Tj Birney - Richmond OH 4a.8 Isabelle Bobo - Mount Vernon OH 4a.9 Branson Hilty - Bluffton OH 4a.10 Hailey Cornett - Hillsboro OH 4a.11 Mallory Goodbar - Springfield OH |
"Another really solid class of April females in class 4. Definitely many different shapes and sizes in this class, but the pair that surface consists of 3 and 2. The Charolais (3) will win this particular drive. She just reads a true breeding piece. We certainly love her maternal look, and just has the distinct advantage over 2 as she’s so big bodied and big ribbed, and is just so square and secure about her hip and hind leg. Then there’s 2 who’s a little more moderate in her build than the class winner, but one that you have to appreciate in terms of her extension, the great angle to her shoulder, and true power. A great class of heifers, my compliments to those exhibitors. "

CLASS 4B APRIL STEERS
CHAMPION:
Mckalynne Helmke, New Philadelphia OH |
RESERVE CHAMPION:
Connor Yochum, Hillsboro OH |
Class List (in order of entry):
4b.1 Katelyn England - Atwater OH 4b.2 Connor Yochum - Hillsboro OH 4b.3 Ryan Deschand - West Salem OH 4b.4 Luke Jones - Haskins OH 4b.5 Owen Bailey - Wooster OH 4b.6 Brylie Jackson - New Carlisle OH 4b.7 Rylan Miller - Bolivar OH 4b.8 Mckalynne Helmke - New Philadelphia OH 4b.9 Tyler Legge-Bobo - Springfield OH 4b.10 Gus Wilt - Bloomingburg OH 4b.11 Taylor Zemba - Norwich OH 4b.12 Tyler Boggess - New Vienna OH |
"A nice set of steers that offer some give and take. We find the 8 steer to go ahead and win. A bold ribbed, big footed, power steer. Not only is he impressive in his genuine shape, dimension, and power but when pulled to lead he remains balanced and offers an attractive look. We find the 2 steer to follow the type and kind of our class winner. Another bold ribbed steer who offers enough in terms of width and power. He’s a big outlined type who offers more in terms of condition when I compare him back to my class winner. Unfortunately I’d like to correct his rear two when he’s on the move. However, a very nice steer, but relative to the class winner, he simply gets out powered."

CLASS 5A FALL BORN HEIFERS

Maci Atterholt, Jeromesville OH
Maci Atterholt, Jeromesville OH
Class List (in order of entry):
5a.1 Maci Atterholt - Jeromesville OH
5a.1 Maci Atterholt - Jeromesville OH
"Another single entry here in class 5A of fall born heifers. First I’d like to commend the young lady leading this hereford female, she does a terrific job and it certainly makes our job easier and more enjoyable. This hereford female is one who checks the boxes in terms of fundamentals and we really can appreciate her attractive and extended design from the side. We have no doubt that as this heifer adds on pounds and continues to grow, she will be even more exciting to evaluate."
CLASS 6A MAY HEIFERS
CHAMPION:
Sadie Moore, Lancaster OH |
RESERVE CHAMPION:
Josey Kiefer, Hamilton OH |
Class List (in order of entry):
6a.1 Allison Herr - Metamora OH
6a.2 Sadie Moore - Lancaster OH
6a.3 Josey Kiefer - Hamilton OH
6a.1 Allison Herr - Metamora OH
6a.2 Sadie Moore - Lancaster OH
6a.3 Josey Kiefer - Hamilton OH
"A good class of May born’s, even though there were limited entries in this particular division. The one that wins this class in the 2 heifer. She’s one that we love in terms of the angle to her shoulder, and fresh maternal look from the side. Yes, we'd like to see her span with more spread up high today, and be more opened up in her shoulder, but for her age, I think the rest will come with time. We then follow with 3, and for her age, we like her depth of body, she just needs to have more to her. She needs more base width, and shear dimension, and we hope that it will come further down the road. But a good class of younger heifers, and our compliments to the showman."
CLASS 6B MAY STEERS
CHAMPION:
Piper Pennell, Bolivar OH |
Class List (in order of entry):
6b.1 Piper Pennell, Bolivar OH
6b.1 Piper Pennell, Bolivar OH
"With a limited number of entries this Hereford steer certainly does not disappoint. A big footed steer, who is good in his lines, and balances really well. Certainly maturity wise he is still green and needs to be pushed but he has power and a bright future. I would also like to commend the young lady on remaining calm and relaxed when her steer did not want to cooperate for her. Congratulations to that young lady."

7a.8 Gage Fruth - Fostoria OH
"We start the class with the 3 steer, and I first want to commend this young lady on how well presented her calf is which only makes this quality calf look better. From the side this steer is really good in his lines and balances extremely well but these are market animals and step in behind him and for where he is at maturity wise and I think he has plenty of power and a bright future. We followed him up with the 4 steer and one that I think does a lot of things good. This steer is stout and big hipped while having some spread on the top side of his skeleton. This is one that I see being powerful down the road, but today he’s not nearly as attractive or as balanced when I study him from the side."
OVERALL HEIFER
GRAND CHAMPION:
Emma Yochum, Hillsboro OH (2a February Heifer) |
RESERVE CHAMPION:
Ian Gehret, Yorkshire OH (4a April Heifer) |
"Our Champion Heifer is the first entry from class 2A, and she’s one we latched onto pretty quickly. Study her from the ground up and she reads correct and true in her angles feminine in her look but still has the extras. This is a high quality female that gives such a striking look from the side while having function and cow power."
"We follow her with the 3rd entry from class 4A and one that certainly grabs your attention. This one gives a truly unique look and one that we love from the side. Bold, soft center with still a good hind leg. If this one continues to grow and stay big enough in her kind she’ll be a force to reckon with down the road."

RESERVE CHAMPION:
Blake Smith, Bryan OH (3b March Steer) |
"As a committee we were all drawn towards the class winner from 2B. When we went to pick a champion there was no question he was in the discussion. We felt this one had so much to offer in terms of look and balance. This steer proportions well from the side and offers an incredible amount of flex out of his hind leg while still packing plenty of power over his back and out through his hip."
"We loved the 22nd entry from class 3B. This one is so impressive when you study genuine shape, dimension, and power. When you get in behind this one and see how bold and wide he is over his back it makes this pair interesting. As a committee we felt he wasn’t quite as intriguing in terms of look from the side as our champion, but still one that balances and has a nice look."
